Does what you're doing energize you or drain your energy?
Without coffee, I am zombie, right?
At least, that was the story I told myself. But that changed recently when I decided to switch to brewed black tea.
All of a sudden, I noticed something: my energy increased, I was sleeping more, and the quality of my sleep improved.
So now I’m looking back.
Sure, I’ll still occasionally enjoy a good cup of joe. But I’ve started paying attention to the process whether a behavior energizes me, drains me, or falls somewhere in between.
The stories we tell ourselves about our behaviors matter. For a long time, I kept saying I was a zombie without coffee, and hold to tightly to that story influenced my choices. It kept me from exploring other options.
Now, I’m taking the time to reflect on my behaviors and ask: do they lead to a life that energizes me, does this come from a wise space? What stories I am telling myself about this behavior?
