Lost in autopilot when you’re unsure where to put your energy?

Where do I put my energy? I get this question all the time. It’s also a question I often ask myself

This question is quite tricky, mainly because slipping back into autopilot feels convenient. It can be a dance between overspending our energy on something that does not matter or completely giving up.

The other day, I was driving and noticed that my windshield was covered in grease. It made me think that asking, “Where should I put my energy?” can sometimes feel like trying to see through a smeared windshield.

On my own “windshield,” I notice feelings of uncertainty and indecision. Thoughts come up like: How do I know if I’m making the right decision? What if I don’t know at all? Those thoughts bring discomfort and make it hard to tap into our energy.

Often, we are taught to challenge or reframe our thoughts, yet this approach can be inefficient and does not help us tap into our energy and wisdom in the long term.

We can easily get lost in the sauce, confusing our thoughts, emotions, and experiences with our identity or with what we truly want.

How we see ourselves impacts our relationship with our experience and behaviors. In therapy, I focus on your relationship with yourself, which is often the driver of behaviors. This approach taps into our energy more deeply and increases a sense of efficiency and flexibility.
